Jakim.tv is the first government agencies is Malaysia to use IsrakStream WebTV offering Video on Demand (VOD) and also the first to use Microsoft latest adaptive streaming technology. Jakim.tv was launched in conjunction with the Gathering of Agencies under the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office by YB Senator Major General Dato' Seri Jamil Khir bin Haji Baharom on 11th January 2011 at the Complex D Auditorium, Putrajaya.
The gathering was attended by 13 agency heads under the Minister as well as the agencies’ employees, which made for an exciting event as well as a full house. Everyone managed to listen to the YB Minister’s first speech for the year 2011. With blue as the colour theme, almost all of those in attendance wore the colour, and this reflected the unity among the employees and the Department’s top level management as well as all the other agencies under the same ministry.
A bit of information on the newly-launched Jakim.tv, it is a video portal from JAKIM’s Media Division production, a video collection as well as an archive of RTM programmes especially relating to Islam. It is the only credible Islamic-based WebTV media channel which is recognised in Malaysia (Malaysian Authoritative Islamic Media).
Jakim.tv is also part of JAKIM’s IslamGRID Knowledge Management project and approach; providing a channel for the dissemination of credible Islamic knowledge in a holistic and continuous manner. Hopefully, it can provide impact to the audience’s experience with its interactive features, as well as the user’s ability to access and search related content such as articles, fatwa and others.
